Introduction
Issue 83’s front cover showcased Rogue Squadron III as well as Judge Dread as the team got a chance to play both games. Rogue Squadron 3 looked particularly impressive, with a look at many of the excellent set pieces. There were also plenty of new shots of last month's E3 stars Mario Kart, Metal Gear and FZero, heavily hyping up the new games. The news this month looked at Nintendo's aim to cut out piracy, including its attempts to shut down websites selling game copy devices. As usual there was speculation about the Gamecubes successor, promising that the next console won’t give Sony 18 months head start. They also attempted to answer the question if the N64 was better than the Gamecube, with the conclusion that the GC was doing better in terms of sales, however it was difficult to say for sure until the next Nintendo console is released.
Wario world was the big review this month, and it got a full teardown over 6 pages. Jim McCauley gave it 86%, with praise for how polished the game was. However it lost points for the length of the game and lack of replayability. On GBA, the second Golden Sun scored an excellent 91%, whilst Donkey Kong Country was also released, scoring 80%. Pokemon’s third generation also launched this month, as Ruby and Sapphire scored 90%.
I’m the best got its big relaunch this month, as it combined with Skill club to form a league of high scores. Game On also returned, showcasing 12 gaming challenges designed to get more out of classic games. At the back of the mag Tim returned to look at whether GBA to GC connectivity was really the future of gaming, or just a passing fad. He provided a guide to how it all worked as well as looking at all the games that supported the connection, both current and future. In the compendium, there was the latest chapter of learning Japanese and as another nod to Wario World, they looked at all of Wario’s games.
