Introduction
Once again, there was a big hitter on the cover of issue 77, as Wind Waker was launched in Japan, and to mark the event they brought Zy back. Over ten pages, he tore down the game, looking at all the bits that were worth looking at, including detail of how the boat system works and how the swordplay worked in the game. As with Mario and Metroid, it scored 96%, although he did criticise the ease of the game, and the fact it had so much sailing.
The GBA:SP was announced this month, and the team managed to get their hands on one, praising the benefits that it brought to gaming on the go. They also asked if Nintendo had finally managed to sort out PAL game releases, as they were releasing only a couple of months past their international releases. There was a first look at 1080: Avalanche this issue, alongside the Gamecube version of Harvest Moon. There were also new details on F-Zero and Enter the Matrix.
Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance was reviewed this issue as promised, and whilst Geraint praised it as being entertaining and great visually, it suffered for being quite shallow in terms of fighting dynamics, scoring 80%. There wasn’t much else of note on Gamecube, however the re-release of Link to the Past was reviewed on GBA, scoring 92%, with praise for the two different games in one as it incorporated four swords.
Metroid Fusion got the guide treatment for this issue, as each of the zones was fully mapped, whaling where everything is in the game. They also got their hands on Ura Zelda (aka Ocarina of Time: Master Quest), looking at the differences in dungeons with the new version and also showing the differences between the N64 and Gamecube version, which were mainly in the visuals and controls. Gaming Planet at the back of the mag took a look at Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire.
