Introduction

Issue 74 brought Rare’s first and last Gamecube game - Starfox Adventures, as the news finally broke that Rare had been bought out by Microsoft. Unfortunately after three years of hype, the game disappointed, with Martin only scoring 72%. The visuals were heavily praised, but it was let down by its lack of standout moments and rather annoying voice-acting.

Faring rather better was the psychological horror game Eternal Darkness, with Mark Walbank giving it 89%, praising the originality and the use of atmosphere within the game. Die Hard Vendetta also scored 80% and the GBA version of Yoshi’s Island scored 93%. They also looked at the US import of Animal Crossing, as Martin gave it 90%, praising it’s use of the hardware as well as the lifespan of the game - something definitely apparent with later versions.

With all the reviews there wasn’t much space for previews, but reign of fire got a double page spread, as well as news about Star the Clone Wars and Jedi Outcast. As well as the Rare news, there was also information about Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire's Four Player capabilities as well as looking at the future of mobile phone gaming.

There was also part two of the Mario Sunshine guide, covering the rest of the stars in the game. Geraint also took us through a beginners guide to Phantasy Star Online 1&2, including how to get connected as well as some of the basics of the game. They also spoke to Ciaran Rooney from BAM games, and looked at the evolution of football in video games.
