Introduction

Last month’s exclusive, SSX blur got the sole cover treatment for Issue 8, as they got a chance to review the game. Martin scored it at 88% specifically praising the quality of the gameplay and the Wii remote controls. Sonic and the Secret Rings was the other top UK review, scoring 82%, with the graphics particularly praised. There were also plenty of DS coverage with Diddy Kong Racing, Hotel Dusk, Harvest Moon, FInal Fantasy VI Advance and Mario vs Donkey Kong 2 all scoring above 80%. Although most were Import releases there was plenty of promise for months to come.

In the news this month they looked at Manhunt 2 and the controversy about its UK launch, with the violence of the game blocking it in many territories. It did eventually make it to a UK launch, but not without  a drawn out cours battle. They also looked at Medal of Honour Vangard and Mortal Kombat Armageddon, as publishers showed further proof that they were taking the Wii seriously. There was also a first proper look at Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings on DS, which was a RTS game built into the Final Fantasy World.

Elsewhere they paid tribute to the Game Boy, as the name was finally set to be retired. They looked at various aspects of the pocket sized gaming god, including some of the more obscure games and some of the GBA games that indie devs were still developing.

Martin took over World of Nintendo this month, as they looked at a load more things you can do with your Wii console. They also looked at various hidden aspects of Excite Truck and celebrated Theme Park’s upcoming release on DS, with various facts about theme parks. There was also tips and secrets for Kororinpa.

In Download, they looked at Jaleco, who were a long since departed Japanese developer who developed several quirky arcade games that were now available on Virtual Console. There was also tips for classics Mario World and Streets of Rage, and looked at the best dogs in video games from years gone by.
