Introduction
Extreme G 3 was the game that got onto the cover of issue 58, as they got their first play of the super speedy racer on the Gamecube. They got a chance to look at a couple of the initial tracks from the game as well as the weapons on offer. They also put some of the most frequently asked questions from readers to some of the big names from Nintendo such as asking about the price of the console and how good the graphics were going to be. They also had the first look at Gamecube RPG Raven Blade, and had more details on Smash Bros and Super Monkey Ball. Super Mario Sunshine also had its first mention, with the promise that it would make Nintendo players very happy.
Planet Game Boy had more news about the up and coming GBA Mario Kart, now called Mario Kart: Super Circuit, as well as Rare’s first games on GBA. They also looked at one of the first FPS games on GBA, Backtrack. There weren’t any five star games this month, but plenty of four star games. Tomb Raider: Curse of the Sword (GBC), Bomberman Tournament (GBA), Hot Potato (GBA) and Scooby Doo all got four stars. They had an in-depth look at some of the accessories available for Game Boy Advance, including link cables, lights and AC adaptors, scoring pretty much every item available. Courtesy of bam entertainment they also had a GBA and 15 games to give away to a lucky reader that could identify games from six doctored screenshots
Paper Mario had the honour of being the final N64 review in N64 magazine, although it actually wasn’t the final N64 review as there were three in the follow-up NGC. Geraint looked at many aspects of the game including Princess Peach’s individual segments. He scored it an excellent 90%, praising it’s decent lifespan, as well as the RPG aspects of the game appealing to both younger and more adult audiences.
As last month, there was only one guide propping up the back of the mag. This time it was Kirby 64, as they looked at how to make the best combinations of power ups within the game. Skill Club was once again evolving, with a new set of 20 challenges set for new leagues starting in issue 60, although the name was becoming a bit of a mouthful - “Skill Club Millennium 2001"!
