Introduction
There was a noticeable shift in the focus of the magazine from issue 57, with the first Gamecube game taking centre stage and less and less focus on the dying N64. Luigi’s mansion took the cover of this issue as they showed more details from E3. They also looked in depth at Smash Bros Melee as they showcased the characters as well as some of the new stages. There was also the transcript of a group interview with Shigeru Myamoto, chatting about all sorts of things from his development process to his ideas about Pikmin. There was also more information about Rare’s contribution to the Gamecube games, covering the games already announced plus potential others. Tony Hawk’s 2 was the only N64 preview.
Over in Planet Game Boy, it was a Color game that took centre stage, with the Zelda Oracles games scoring five stars. They were reviewed as one, but really they were two separate games. There were a few more GBA releases reviewed this month, FInal Fight One scored four stars from Japan as did Fire Pro Wrestling and Matchbox: Emergency Patrol on GBC also scored four stars.
N64 wise, once again we had only one UK release, with Kirby 64 finally getting launched in the UK, Alan gave it 72%, praising the concept of the game, but unfortunately was far too easy, giving it a lifespan of only a few hours. Mario Party 3 was the only import release with Geraint scoring the US version 74%, with the main issues being that it wasn’t much different from its predecessors.
Indiana Jones was the only game to be tipped this issue, and unfortunately that was pretty much it for new content, as the usual I’m The Best, Skill Club and Directory took up the last pages of the magazine.
