N64 Magazine Issue 54 | Nintendo Mags

Introduction

The team got a surprise this issue as THQ published three N64 games that had struggled to find someone to publish them. Conker’s Bad Fur Day was the biggest of the three, and they managed to give the game a full review - although had to censor their screenshots due to the bad language in the game. They tore down a couple of the first levels, again praising the ingenuity and originality on offer. The final score was 89%, a few small faults just stopping it from hitting the magic 90% level.

The two Factor 5 games were also published by THQ, with Battle for Naboo reviewed this issue and Indiana Jones promised for the next one. Battle for Naboo scored a decent 78%, as Geraint praised the steps taken since Rogue Squadron from two years ago. Paper Mario also got a US review, gaining 90%. Whilst Playstation port Mega Man 64 gained 70%. Pocket Soccer was the big Game Boy game, with four stars, whilst the Little Mermaid Pinball also scored four stars.

Previews were thin on the ground this issue as everything started to gear up towards E3. Custom Robo V3 was the only Future Look, whilst they also looked at Animal Crossing and Aidyn Chronicles as big games. The big news this month was that with the demise of the Dreamcast, SEGA had started to publish games for the Game Boy, with big rumours for Gamecube games.

Guides this month looked at Sin and Punishment and Donald Duck: Quack Attack and at the back of the mag Mark gave us a look round Nintendo’s UK HQ in London (a place he would find himself working in just over a years time), asking various questions about the distribution of Nintendo games in the UK and had a proper interview with Shelly Friend, Nintendo Europoe’s head of PR
